Anthony Kearns, a Wexford man, hails from the tiny village of Kiltealy which boasts a great Kearns who led his people in their fight for freedom: Father Mogue Kearns. Anthony was the last Kearns born in the house in which Father Kearns was reared.
Kiltealy is the highest little village in Wexford, situated at the foot of the Blackstair Mountains. Its surrounding lush fields are used for farming and raising horses.
Comments Kearns, "I'm very proud of where I come from, it stood to me and gave me good grounding." "They're good country people; they keep me well and firmly rooted," he says of the locals. Anthony's pride in his home village and county is evident in his bearing and his eyes as he speaks of home, in much of his favorite Irish music, as well as in his words.
In the fall of 2008, Anthony was invited to sing at the newly refurbished St. Cormac's Church in Boolavogue by Fr Bryne, who had been pastor there for 3 years; a Church Bishop was also present. Both gentlemen were Wexford men. Anthony sang "Boolavogue" that day, and the Bishop is quoted: "This night will pass into the history of the area and people will always speak of the night Anthony Kearns sang Boolavogue in Boolavogue." (Read HERE for some interesting information gleaned from one of the reviews of that event.)
