Brief Biography: Finbar Wright |
![]() |
Wright sang at Ireland's first Papal Mass; in attendance were nearly 1 1/4 million people, fully a third of Ireland's population at the time. Finbar was ordained a priest in 1980, he was the youngest priest in the world (just 22.) His ordination required a special dispensation. Wright served as a teacher-priest, teaching Latin and Spanish at the college level. After seven years, Finbar left the priesthood, feeling that it "just wasn't for me." He then devoted himself to his study of music.
Finbar Wright is a true "Renaissance Man." Besides enjoying a successful vocal career, he has published a book of poetry, is an accomplished song writer, and enjoys photography. Wright has released six CD's of his own, some of which include his compositions, and had his own evening television show in Ireland at one time.
Wright currently lives in Kinsale, County Cork, with his wife, whom he married in 1990, and their two children. The entire Wright family is musical: his wife is an accomplished singer, his son plays cello, and his young daughter studies piano.
Finbar is a strong supporter of children's causes worldwide, and has mentioned UNICEF as being a chairty deserving of our support.
